Height
The height of the Connemara Pony should be between 128cms to 148cms. (12.2 to 14.2 Hands High).

Colour
Grey, black, Bay, Brown, Dun are most predominant however there is the occasional Roan & Chestnut, Palomino, & Dark Eyed Cream.

Type
Compact, well-balanced riding type with good depth and substance and good heart room, standing on short legs, covering a lot of ground.

Head
Head in proportion of medium length with good width between large kind eyes. A well defined jaw relatively deep but not coarse. Overall pony appearance.

Front
The head should be well-set onto the neck. The crest should not be over developed nor the neck set on too low. The neck should have good length of rein being set into well-defined withers with the shoulder nicely sloping.

Body
The body should be deep with a strong back, the mare being slightly longer of the back than the stallion to accommodate carrying a foal but should be well-ribbed up and with strong loin.

Limbs
The forearm should be long and strong and knees and hocks should be large and well defined. The knee should not be back and the hocks not to close nor far apart, over bent or weak in any way. The cannons should be short with good flat bone measuring at least 18cms. Elbows should be free. Pasterns of medium length not to long nor short, feet well shaped not flat or boxy, of medium size, hard and level.

Hindquarters
Should be strong and Muscular with good length, well-developed long strong second thighs.

Movement
Movement free easy without undue knee action, but active and covering ground with good flexion of hocks and freedom of the shoulder

Temperament
Kind and gentle with intelligence and sense.

Uses
The Connemara pony makes a useful and reliable child’s or adults mount and has been represented in international competition in Eventing, Showjumping and Dressage. They also make fantastic working hunter and leisure ponies.
